Long term recovery requires healthy habits including taking care of one’s physical healthy. For those in recovery, focusing on regaining and protecting their physical health is vital.
We work with each of our residents to offer them physical health education, healthy meals, as well as the opportunity to work on physical fitness and health goals.
The Importance of Physical Health
Physical health offers a number of benefits to those in recovery. Not only does exercise increase overall health and wellbeing, but it can also reduce stress and anxiety, increase self-esteem, provide a valuable coping mechanism, offer increased opportunities for socializing, and provide emotional enjoyment and personal empowerment.
Exercise and physical health programs during recovery have been shown to significantly decrease the possibility of relapse once a resident returns home.
Physical Health at The Texas House
At the Texas House, our goal is to help our residents gain physical health and wellness. We give them the opportunity to practice healthy skills while they are in transitional living so that they can look forward to a healthy recovery once they return home.
Exercise: We offer a comprehensive physical wellness program for residents of The Texas House. Residents will have the opportunity to work with a personal trainer in our 600+ square foot in-house gym to support one’s physical rehabilitation.
Nutrition: We offer nutritious and healthy meals prepared together in our gourmet commercial kitchen, and teach our residents the basic nutrition and healthy eating habits. We also discuss the basic, but vital skills of cooking, cleaning, and meal preparation.
We work with each of our residents to help them understand the importance of physical health and offer the opportunity to learn new skills to give them a healthier future.
